i am not feeling like myself today. i suppose waking up at 2am and not falling back to sleep has something to do with that. i tried all of my usual tricks of attempting to fall into a slumber (ie reading, musician-alphabet-in-my-head, etc) but none of them worked and so i laid there for 4.5 hours until the radio alarm went off. today my brain is not really interpreting the little impulses that are being sent by the neurons or whatever it is that transmits the thoughts around inside my head. it's kind of crazy that our thoughts are just electrical impulses or waves traveling along . . . are we really controlled by chemical reactions? i hope it's more than that. nothing is making sense, it's quite frustrating. i foresee a long day of excel charts and graphs in front of me. maybe i should buy some fuel for my brain. "yes, have some." i really want to be fully alert for this evening.

Last Book I Bought: i purchased digital fortress by dan brown for my dad (father's day). i will hopefully be purchasing flowers in the attic for the trashy book club i joined. . . and maybe some christopher pike, omgz.

3. Last Book I Read: i just finished eleanor rigby by douglas coupland. it was predictable and much like his other books, but i still enjoyed it. the main character reminded me of myself though, which was rather depressing. i just started a million little pieces by james frey this week on recommendation from a few luffly folks.

4. Six Books That Mean A Lot to Me, in no order:

handmaid's tale by margaret atwood
this was my favorite book in highschool, i was a huge atwood fan back then. i'm not sure if i would appreciate so much if i read it again, which is why i haven't. i prefer to remember it the way i did back then.

catcher in the rye by jd salinger
i think i've read this book more times than any other. it feels like an old friend.

microserfs by douglas coupland
my first coupland book which led to many others. i love him, even if he repeats the same story.

me talk pretty one day by david sedaris
my favorite sedaris book. i was thankful to be reading something funny at this time in my life.

pigs in heaven by barbara kingsolver
another favorite book from highschool. again, i have not reread this because i fear that i wouldn't like it so much anymore. it's like when you watch one of your favorite movies from childhood and the memories are ruined. it makes baby cheezus cry.

beloved by toni morrison
i have a lot of funny memories associated with it. my friends and i even made a cheezy movie (which is WAY better than the oprah winfrey beloved movie). i still own it. i remember there's one scene where i carried around a saw with ketchup (aka blood) while pretending to cut a baby. fun times!

i tag rachel rocco
